Standard problem with Logitech Set Point drivers in Firefox: Go to your Logitech Control Panel, My Mouse and select buttons 5 & 6. Reset them to "keystroke assignment" and assign button 5 Alt+right and button 6 Alt+left. This is a standard issue with Logitech drivers in Firefox and is noted on Logitech's support site. Almost sliding but the thumb and ring fingers on those buttons actually hardly move and just flex a little, the finger movement on buttons is hardly noticeable to an observer. -------------- Mouse problems in Firefox Scroll with mouse wheel -- CSS style overlflow:hidden http://j-walkblog.com/index.php?/weblog/comments/firefox_wheel_click_problem_fixed/ Logitech mouse, http://kb.mozillazine.org/Logitech_mouse Keyboard and mouse, and clipboard problems (Firefox), http://kb.mozillazine.org/Category:Keyboard_and_mouse_%28Firefox%29 --------------------- Cleaning Mouse and Erratic behavior of optical mouse: You used to have to remove the ball, and clean it and the surfaces of the rollers with alcohol, but even an Optical Mouse requires some care. Erratic behaviour of Optical Mouse is probably caused by a piece of hair over the sensor, unplug mouse before examining to protect your eyes. Optical mouse: Clean the tunnel to the laser with a cotton swab with alcohol and vacuum for a length of time to dislodge and bring out any hair or other foreign material that might have gotten inside. Don't forget the dark sensor, a small fiber there can create havoc with disconnect/reconnect sounds and with operation. The pads on the bottom of the mouse are made of material to slide very easily, if they get dirty the mouse will not slide easily so clean them and perhaps restore finish, likewise the mouse should slide easily on the mousepad. Just got a mouse pad with a hard printed surface with rubberized backing and it works the best on any I've used, better even than paper. But the best so far is a manilla file folder that can be stabilized by shoving part of it under keyboard or laptop (alignment markings can be helpful). Normally if the mouse is dirty it skips over areas and is hard to move with precision, but another symptom popped up where it was creating almost continuous device connect/disconnect noises (boink deboink) at times. Turns out it was the optical mouse with just a small fiber on the dark sensor. Cleaned and appears to be working again, silence is Golden. --------------------- Related Links: Use of Mouse in Excel, (Microsoft is poor in documenting mouse use) see http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/fillhand.htm#mouse Use of Shortcut keys including Functions keys in Excel see http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/shortx2k.htm Use of Mouse in various browser including (Firefox, IE, Opera) see Help, Mouse in Firefox Help Comparisons between browser no longer in Firefox help, but can be seen at http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/mouse Use of Mouse in Firefox, (also see related area at bottom of rightff.htm) see http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/rightff.htm#tabsbar see http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/tabs.htm comparison of Shortcut keys between browsers is no longer available in the Firefox help but can be still be seen at... http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/keyboard --------------------- http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/mouse.txt
