addbookmarkhere2.txt updated 2010-12-27 Continued from http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/firefox.htm#addbookmarkhere2 referencing the extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/add-bookmark-here-2/ Two different Extensions: "SortPlaces" and using "Add Bookmark Here ²" instead of older "OpenBook" To have folders and bookmarks sort at same level use the same numbers for both in SortPlaces Mine are probably are set as follows and is also the default: 1) Queries, 2 folders, 3 Livemarks, 4 bookmarks "Add Bookmark Here ²" extension right click on bookmark star to bring up options. then on the Advanced Tab there is a checkbox to indicate where you want the default to be used (Firefox defaulted to Unsorted) and choose. Bookmarks are added to the bottom. You can keep them down there with separators which you said you already were using. You will have to go through all of the options. These are mine: Main (tab) Choose (Add bookmark Here...) position: Top Choose (Open all in Tabs) position: Bottom Left click: Bookmark This page (bookmark this page to unsorted -in advanced tab) Middle click: Show the Dialog with a Single Click Right click: Open Add Bookmark Here ^2 Options... [_] Insert Bookmarks to Top of Menu (bottom is the default) Panel (tab) checked: Name, Location, Folder, Keyword, Description unchecked: Tags, Load this bookmark in sidebar Miscellaneous checked: Expand the folder tree, and Diplay the Tags inline unchecked: Expand the Tags List Note: The "Keyword" and "Description" are very important to me. The "Tags" which I don't use, simply add confusion to the panel for most people, and after trying them, I don't see much value in tags and they have a severe impact on usage. Menu (tab) all 8 items are checkmarked, drop down for Middle click is "Bookmark all Tabs... Advanced Tab: (bookmark star) Left-click: Show the Dialog with a Single Click [corrected setting 2011-02-23] Middle-click Show the Dialog with a Single Click Right-click: Open Add Bookmark Here ^2 Options... [x] Customize the Unsorted Bookmarks Folder (unchecked goes to last folder bookmarked to -- disaster() (select Unsorted bookmarks) -- (which I guess means default) <> I strongly suggest no automatic sorting of bookmarks with "SortPlaces" extension. Then click on the sortplaces star on the statusbar on a toolbar or in the bookmarks menu to sort when you';re good and ready to like after seeing if you want to put them into a specific folder sometime after adding them. sorting of bookmarks. ====================================================================== Additional notes (from answering another question): > I am in the habit of opening a bunch of tabs when researching > products, learning how to do something new, or just searching for some > random piece of information. It Would be nice to have a bookmark all > feature where it prompts for a folder then adds a bookmark to that > folder for each tab that is open. > [as posted in Hendrix 2011-01-19, by Roland as a suggestion] That is built-in to Firefox -- right-click on a tab "Bookmark all tabs..." then choose the folder where the "New Folder" is to be placed and renamed. but it can be improved: Install these two extensions then you will still be able to do that, but after installing the two extensions you will be able to choose use your selection of tabs, and choose "Bookmark selected tabs..." then choose the folder that "New Folder" is to be added to. You can then rename the "New Folder" or move the bookmarks from the "New Folder" into the folder you had selected and remove the "New Folder". You will also be able to bookmark a single tab to a folder by right-click on folder name in sidebar and choose "Add bookmark here" (for which the extension was named). "Multiple Tab Handler" (70KB), duplicates tabs and has a lot of additional multiple tab handling features https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/multiple-tab-handler/ see my description and usage notes in http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/firefox.htm#multipletabhandler "Add Bookmark Here ²" (55KB), provides bookmark dialog with the keyword property easily accessible, and you can also hide the tags dialog. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/3880/ see my description and usage notes in http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/firefox.htm#addbookmarkhere2 http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/addbookmarkhere2.txt http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/kws.htm ("Add Bookmark Here ^2" replaces the "OpenBook" extension and then some) You might also check out your tab configuration options to this page http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/tab_capacity/001_with_underscore.htm Documentation and Research: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Tools_for_copying_text_and_other_content_from_web_pages Organizing Bookmarks by sorting: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Sorting_and_rearranging_bookmarks_-_Firefox
