Add and Remove the Desktop Build/Version number Note: If you are running a pre-release or evaluation version of Windows the desktop build number cannot be removed following these steps and is always shown by default, though it is possible to hide by locking the items on the desktop (right click > arrange icons by > lock web items on the desktop).
The desktop version/build information can be shown above the clock. This function can be added using the TweakUI component of the Windows XP Power Toys (available here) or simply by using the registry keys below.
