- 8:45 - 9:30 - Technical Presentation - "SpinRite 5", a HDD disaster recovery (and prevention) tool by Gibson Research. Four members of the group are testing the product will give their opinions of the product and its capabilities in practical application. <www.grc.com>

  • Presenters: Arthur Priver, Jack Schwartz, Len Segal, and Dan Stolts

 

Administrative

  • MISSION STATEMENT: This group is organized to assist those that are IT/IS Professionals and will be technical in nature, focusing on admin/networking issues with Win9x and WinNT WS. The target "market" here is IS/IT Professionals (NOT consumers) and the issues that are pertinent to this segment of the market, with a stress on:

 

Administrative (Cont’d)

    • Networking Win9x/NT systems (peer-to-peer or Server-based networks)
    • RAS issues
    • Multilink (issues surrounding why it is best used in Intranets as opposed to ISPs)
    • Registry tweaking
    • Policy tools
    • Security issues
    • Utilizing various troubleshooting tools
    • Issues integrating WinNT WS into a business that uses proprietary vertical market apps (many won't run under NT)
    • Etc.
  • Technical Presentations Planned are:

- The September 23rd meeting (NOTE: Change in date, this month only) will have a Technical Presentation on Microsoft Certification Issues and Tips. We will discuss the ATEC (Microsoft Authorized Training & Education Center) training vs. non-ATEC (aka "out of the box") training.

  • - Topics for future meetings will be as follows:
  • RAS in/RAS out
  • Exchange with Office, NT Server and Win9x Clients for shared calendars
  • Tools in Win98 and NT Resource Kit for Troubleshooting (e.g. DLL update, FAT32 conversion, MS Info, etc.)
  • Mini-Presentations on "Things Learned" in Real World applications
  • SID Changing, Large-Scale Migration Tools
  • New Technologies Expected in Next Quarter (e.g. Celerons, USB Hardware, 100MHz Bus Socket 7 motherboards, etc.)
  • Seagate Exec Backup - Restoring from Floppy
  • RAID - Explaining RAID 0-5, When/why to use it and which Level, etc.
  • Small Business Server Market Issues (e.g. From a Practical Point of View, what do you do if you outgrow SBS and want to upgrade to full-blown products?)
  • Registry Backups in Win98 (e.g. How it works, what's different from Win95, practical issues, etc.)
