Restoring an Outlook Express .DBX file from backup http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/oerestore.txt I'm going with the following as the least disruptive as I only need to reset the last used count for the one newsgroup, and, of course, not lose my previous content. 1) Outlook Express -- Offline (important to be offline) 2) xcopy *programming*.dbx to another directory 3) delete the *programming* folder with Unsubscribe on right-click 4) Resubscribe to *programming* 5) xcopy *programming*.dbx back to original location replacing folder Outlook Express created 6) Outlook Express -- back to Online To help facilitate this I have changed/added Newsgroup Rules that limit incoming to the last 30 days and something I didn't realize was there to mark for download everything accepted. Complete set of Newsgroup rules I use will be at http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/oenews.txt to go with my oe6.htm webpage for oe5 and oe6 for Excel. Problems would be within the last 30 days. Backup information may be found in backup.htm and oe6.htm, basically: Backup your Outlook Express Data files (.dbx) and your Windows Address Book (.wab). You can usually figure out how to restore data when you need it, but you must have the backup.
