RIS Notes for Dell Dimension 8400 with Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx NIC (Borrowed from Dell Doc P29352): 1. Download R87461.EXE from dell.com, extract the files somewhere. 2. Log on to the RIS server and stop the BINL service (win2K Server) or Remote Installation Server. 3. Open the i386 folder on the cd-based image that you are trying to use, backup the B57win32.inf, B57win32.cat, B57w2k.sys (For Win2K Pro) or B57xp32.sys (winXP) files by renaming them. 4. Delete the B57xp32.pnf file if it exists. 5. Copy from the "WinXP" extracted files directory the B57win32.inf, B57win32.cat and B57xp32.sys files to the i386 directory of the cd-based image on the RIS server. 6. If you are deploying Windows XP, modify the B57win32.inf file as described below: A. Remove the [Broadcom] section, which is illustrated below. [Broadcom] %OEM1_DEV5% = OEM1_DEV5.Inst, PCI\VEN_14e4&DEV_165D&SUBSYS_865d1028 . . %BCM5750B0F% = BCM5750B0MF.Inst, PCI\VEN_14e4&DEV_167E&SUBSYS_057D1014&REV_10 B. Remove NTx86.5.1 in the manufacturers section, which is illustrated below. Original [Manufacturer] %BRCM% = Broadcom, NTx86.5.1 Revised [Manufacturer] %BRCM% = Broadcom C. After steps 6A and 6B, make the following change: Original [Broadcom.NTx86.5.1] Revised [Broadcom] If you are deploying Windows 2000 Pro, perform step 6B above only if the RIS server does not have Service Pack 3 or later. 7. Make a new folder inside the $OEM$\$1\Drivers\ folder called "Broadcom". 8. Copy to the new Broadcom folder the B57win32.inf (original one), B57win32.cat and B57xp32.sys files from above. 9. Edit the SIF to add the "Drivers\Nic\Broadcom" line (separate with a ";" between lines, no spaces and enclosed the entire string in quotes). 10. Start the BINL service on the RIS Server.
