VBnet Terms of Use
Visual Basic Developers Resource Centre

This site exists to assist personal and corporate application developers understand and utilize the Windows API in their VB applications.  The terms of use outlined below will not in any way impede the legitimate use of site code in any application. VBnet pages are constantly updated as visitors identify issues or bugs, or as performance improvements are discovered or suggested.

However, this site is not intended to be a resource for individuals to construct their own instant Visual Basic web site. I have spent nearly ten years developing the code and this site and do not appreciate those who take this work and offer it to the world as their own.  In the past ten years I've come across very buggy copies of some site pages or demo projects based on VBnet code samples where shortcuts have been taken in plagiarizing the code, making it worthless to a serious developer wanting real solutions.

Therefore, all visitors are subject to and agree to the following conditions if any code from this site is used. And be forewarned ... copyright infractions against any mvps.org site code are pursued with a vengeance.

Each VBnet code page includes either or both of the following copyright statements:

''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
' Copyright ©1996-2011 VBnet/Randy Birch, All Rights Reserved.
' Some pages may also contain other copyrights by the author.
''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
' Distribution: You can freely use this code in your own
' applications, but you may not reproduce
' or publish this code on any web site,
' online service, or distribute as source
' on any media without express permission.

» This means you, as an application developer or hobbyist, can :

» use any code here in any application you develop, either personally or corporately, free for for sale;

» give or sell any code from this site as part of your application's original source code;

» use any code here to create a complete demo application for distribution on the web, either commercially, privately or as an open source project, so long as the purpose of that demo application is to illustrate or create something other than that code found here. In other words the VBnet code, while enhancing the functionality of your application, forms only a portion of a larger application whose primary goal is not to demonstrate the code taken from this site.

» This means you can not ...

» copy, redistribute, republish or sell any source code from this site by any means, including:
  • reproducing the code as text or web pages;
  • distributing the code on the web as projects or files inside of zip files or as code pages;
  • providing this source in either text or project form to another site for their republishing;
  • creating a demo of this code and placing it for download on the web, either as your code or crediting VBnet;
  • distributing the code in text, html or as a zipped project via a CD or DVD collection, whether such collection is made available free or not.

To ensure your users always have access to the most up-to-date code, it only makes sense to refer your users to the VBnet page by providing a direct link to the pages of interest.

And although not mandatory, of course, any recognition of VBnet's contribution in your application documentation or help files is appreciated.

The VBnet logo is copyright. Please ask for permission before using it on your page as a link or to identify code from this site. Because the quality of any image can reflect the care taken on both our sites, I will custom-size a VBnet logo to fit your page look and background - just ask, providing the URL and size/background colour desired.

Although most of VBnet is authored by Randy Birch, there are many pages across the site whose code is published here with the express permission of the author.

However no one is infallible and, while every effort is made to assure that the legitimate authors are correctly credited on VBnet, there is always the chance that something might slip through. If you discover I've failed to credit an author with a known piece of work, please let me know via the Send Comments link so I can make the required amendments to the page.
